Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno (R) is welcomed by her father Suhkarno after the Islamic Religious Office returned her to her father’s house in Sungei Siput, about 300km (186 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysias state of Perak August 24, 2009. Religious authorities in Malaysia on Monday freed a Kartika who had been sentenced to be caned for drinking beer, although she initially refused to leave a van taking her to jail when returned to her father’s home. It was not immediately clear whether the sentence, the first time a woman has been sentenced to caning in this Southeast Asian country, had been overturned or merely postponed.

Its really funny … this mother of two is ready to be caned for what she had done. Even the father was willing and grateful that his daughter being taken and punish for what she had done. After the Religious Officers took her and drove her about 300 metres from the house they stop, and made a few phone call. Whatever happened, of which we don’t know, she was sent back to her father. Thing get a bit messy as no one knows what happen.

I heard the officer was saying that he was asked to returns Kartika from the order of someone above. When asked why and he never want to say anything. So this poor guy was like trying to anwswer thousand of question from all corners.

Anyway back to the point. The lastest news was that, Religious authorities in Malaysia postponed on Monday the caning of a Kartika convicted of drinking alcohol until after the holy month of Ramadhan.

When the decision was first made to cane her on 24aug, everyone (including the religious authorities) knew it is going to be the holy month of Ramadhan. After all the trouble and making Malaysian divided on this issue then only they reliase that it was Ramadhan. What do you think?

its just another typical Malaysian-styled decision making process which is always inconsistent….
and yes, receive a phone call from the top boss, the decision is overturned…
i mean, with only a phone call, a decision made earlier can be overturned????
    really menyusahkan org…..
this kind of inconsistency plus the harsh punishment is really a disgrace to the religion and the country thru the eyes of the world.

Ha ha ha ha… Mesti best bro tengok drama semalam. Tak boleh saya bayangkan pengamal media yang berada di sana semalam dalam keadaan terpinga-pinga sambil menantikan berita lanjut dari pejabat agama. Mesti rasa macam dipermainkan.
